Up or Down

As we step into God’s elevator of eternal life one question is asked of us, “Will that be up or down?” Before God pushes the button he wants to know our choice of heaven or hell; our choice between his son Jesus Christ or Satan the fallen one of rebellion.

We have a life given to us to make that decision. Once we make the determination to check into hell, it’s not like a hotel room that if we don’t like it we may leave. Our decision will remain intact for an eternity, and we will abide by that. There is no changing of one’s mind. If we choose a downward descent we had better like the heat of the tropics and the smoke of a bingo parlor; and breaking out the shorts will find us very little comfort. Our fears

will be many and the generosity of our tears will outweigh any rationalizing.

Life is like a rollercoaster with all its ups and downs. We are to enjoy the view from the top of the mountain as well as the lower elevations in the valley on our road to discovery. Sometimes we will experience the weightlessness of going up, as well as the pit of our stomach in our throat as we freefall downward. Whatever the direction is where we are headed, we can rest assured that we have made that decision, because God will not intervene into our freewill. His responsibility was providing us with the information and a provision for our sin and salvation. Everything else is left up to us.

If we do not talk to Jesus while we are here on this planet, what could we possibly have to say to him in heaven? He knows our hearts so excuses would be of very little use. All of our life the Holy Ghost helps us to resist the gravitational pull of hell as well as protecting us from Satan and his fallen angels. Our love and allegiance is due him as well as rebuking the devil and his temptations.

The truth is God knows our hearts. He already knows whether we will choose up or down without ever asking us. We can not remain in the elevator forever and there are no floors in between. We are headed for either the top or the bottom. At the top of course is the kingdom of God where everything is positive and good. The bottom is hell where everything is negative and terrible and nowhere to go but down. Both directions are one way and RSVP is not required, divided from each other with as much separation as could ever be imagined.
