Out On A Limb

In the past, it was an understood thing to not use profanity or take the Lord's name in vain. This was not only for respect of others, but the continuation of doing God’s will. But with Satan’s persistence, this has come to pass and it is only getting worse.

From movies to television, it has become socially acceptable to use profanity and take the Lord's name in vain. This is the work of Satan, and it has become so engraved in today’s society that we have had to create things like the rating board of the Classification and Rating Administration. These are the people who

label movies with their classifications of G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17. This insurgence of profanity is not only in our movie theatres, but also in our television shows. There is similar ratings invoked on our public broadcast systems; Y, Y7, Y7 FV, G, PG, 14 and MA, but these are only on a voluntary basis by the stations. These ratings are not only placed on shows that are on during late night programming, but during prime time when our vulnerable children are watching. Still, Satan is pressing forward, the ratings get more and more relaxed. This only is leading us all to slowly start to hear more profanity and more of the Lord's name being taken in vain during programming.

Even the once innocent cartoons have been replaced by vulgarity of things like the BRATZ, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Lilo and Stitch, Rug Rats and Fairly Odd Parents. Though it is not profanity, all are pure work of Satan to instill the non-acceptance of God by teaching defiance of elders and the preparedness for the trash talk we all have become so accustomed to hearing.

Outside this entertainment window of movies and television, Satan’s device is showing up more in sporting events and even the idle chat at your work's water cooler. With all of the different influences we are amidst everyday, it is no wonder we talk the way we do. It is imperative that we stand up and do something about this complete disregard to God’s will.

Go out on a limb; say something when you hear people speaking this way. It is bad enough that the entertainment we watch has profanity; we do not need to hear it in our every day conversations. Take the chance that the people around you feel the same way and are not saying something because of its social norm. Remind them what Jesus did for us and tell them He deserves better than to have his name so carelessly thrown around and dragged through the mud. He was crucified for our sins, yet we continue to bash Him and his name. Has he not been through enough anguish for us? Every time the Lord's name is taken in vain, it is like another dagger stabbing into him.

We are on the front lines against Satan’s thwarting attacks and we need to be strong. If we all go out on this limb and try to help clean up the environment around us, it will send messages to others that they should be doing the same. This is going to be a long hard battle, but remember, we have the strongest, biggest and most powerful warrior on our side, God!
