How to Pray

Some people don’t pray to God because they think they don’t know how to. Praying to the Father is instinctively embedded within our soul. We all yearn to talk to God. In fact if any wish could be granted, that would be the number one request: to have a one-on-one conversation with God. Prayer is as close as we are going to get until we get to heaven.

Others are shy or embarrassed to pray in public. They are not sure of what to say, or how to say it. It’s like the saying, there are no dumb questions; it is only dumb not to ask. It is the same for prayers. All prayers are important to God: short and longwinded, simple and complex, thankful and praise, deep and sincere, desperate and meaningful. Prayers come in all shapes and sizes and none have priority over each other. God hears them all, and answers every single one of them in his time.

Prayer is from the heart and God knows our needs before we ask. You may ask why do we need to pray then? It’s not all about wanting, it’s about giving. We want to give the Lord praise and thanks for all the blessings in our life. We want to share our gratitude for the life he has given us, our health, our family, our friends, but most importantly our salvation.

On the opposite end of the spectrum are people that feel they are not worthy of praying to God, because of what they have done in their life. They have let their sin corrupt their minds to the point that they have no self worth or value, actually to the point that they dislike themselves. Of course this is all in their minds, Gods loves them just as well as anyone else. He hates the sin not the sinner. He wants the best for their lives and knows that can never occur as long as they are sinning. The human conscience struggles to convince that lost soul of the self destruction that is occurring and to reach out to God for assistance through prayer.

Prayer is a deep spiritual connection with the creator of our soul, reaching out in our willingness to understand. Our prayers are precious in the sight of God, recognized and honored throughout the history of the bible as a plea unto God with thanksgiving. Our prayers or conversations with God are treasures stored in heaven and along with our knowledge of him will be the only remains of our existence while here on this earth. How healthy is your account where your prayers and heavenly thoughts are stored?
